Values are our compass: how to motivate change in uncertain times
Our Guest Speaker – Mark Chenery, Co-founder Common Cause Australia
Values lie at the heart of our motivational systems, but are often misunderstood or overlooked when managing change. In this session you’ll learn about the science of human values – what they are, how they work, and which values motivate the behaviours you need for transformational change. Based on insights from over two decades of global research, as well as messaging testing with over 40,000 Australians, values-based messaging expert Mark Chenery will share five practical tips for motivating change using the power of values.
About Mark
Mark started his career at an advertising agency before becoming a journalist reporting on the advertising, marketing and media industry as features editor of AdNews Magazine. After growing increasingly concerned with the negative impacts of advertising on society, Mark transitioned into the non-profit world as a Communications Manager for Austcare. Later, as Head of Community Engagement at ActionAid Australia, Mark initiated and then led the organisation’s strategic work on values-based community engagement. In 2014, Mark co-founded Common Cause Australia, which works with progressive organisations through research, training and consulting to embed a values-based approach to community engagement in their work. Their research has changed the way many leading social justice, health and environmental organisations engage with the community on these issues.
